My favourite meme is the one where Britney Spears’ soul is leaving her body. I just resonate with that ability to pull the ‘girl’ card so much and besides all the gender pay gap, violence and women taking on the mental work load (which are important issues ) there are still lots of reasons I love being a woman.
10 reasons why I love being a woman;
Other than the time me and my sister attempted to carry a wardrobe up a very steep flight of stairs and she almost died (that’s a story for another time), I am quite capable of carrying largish items but the minute my foot steps outside of my car at the recycling centre (and I’m not with my partner) the men there flock around to carry my shit because I am just a poor, weak, little woman and I’m not even get mad about it.
The way that Sostrene Grene is paradise; little bit of homeware, little bit of stationary, little bit of beauty. If I could bottle up the feeling of walking in there on payday I would and I don’t believe for one minute that there is a male equivalent.
Group chats; give me group chats with nonsensical names, group chats with glitter ball emojis, groups chats called ‘hunnies’ and ‘besties’, group chats for hen dos and birthdays and just for brunch on a Saturday morning. Is there anything better than arranging the event in the group chat, doing the event, then reminiscing about the event in the group chat for weeks after?
Just being able to cry without worrying someone will call me something derogatory because I don’t have to worry about toxic masculinity - well I do, but for other reasons. In fact, I purposefully watch 999 Critical Condition so that I can have a big cry about someone who’s died in a motorbike accident that I don’t know but I know will have someone out there who is going to miss them.
Accessories; I have clips and headbands and bags and anklets and necklaces and scrunchies and bows and scarves and rings and bracelets and belts and watches and tights and perfume and so many ways to season an outfit. My boyfriend has one belt and that’s for purely practical reasons.
Seasonal décor; what are men even shopping for if they aren’t shopping for pumpkin spiced candles or baubles? Imagine living a life where you don’t care what theme the Christmas tree is this year, I am shooketh at the thought.
Men just can’t pull off leopard print like a woman. Leopard print can be the outfit, think leopard print slip dress or midi skirt or trousers. Or, it can be that little pop of something with a leopard print scrunchie or tote bag. I just can’t imagine seeing a man with a leopard print tie and thinking he’s a normal functioning human being that doesn’t live with his mum.
Growing a human life inside me - that’s it.
Being able to do witchy stuff without people thinking I am mad, if my boyfriend started brandishing spell candles and tarot cards and meeting his friends to sit in a circle to talk about the full moon I’d think he was having an affair.
I can do everything a man does but with glitter and sequins and gems and frills and bows and lace and heart shaped buttons and all those little sprinkles of beauty.
p.s. this post is meant to be light hearted and a little bit silly, forgive me, I am only a girl after all.
